COASTAL
THE BRIEF
Explore the coast without relying on the familiar visual shorthand of summer, escape or nautical nostalgia. Build a contemporary coastal world around atmosphere, texture and human presence, with the landscape carrying as much narrative weight as the people within it.
THE DIRECTION
The series is female-led and deliberately romantic rather than functional. Figures are placed within headlands, stone paths, harbour edges, coastal interiors and exposed landscapes, often appearing small against the scale of the environment.
The palette moves through deep marine blue, forest and olive green, tobacco brown, slate and muted stone. Light is kept low and directional, favouring overcast afternoons, dusk and the softened conditions that follow rain.
Natural materials became part of the visual language: wet stone, heavy wool, timber, sea-worn surfaces, grasses, ceramics and dark water. Rather than treating the coast as a backdrop, the direction uses those materials to make it feel physically present in every frame.
DETAIL
The challenge was maintaining romance without drifting into nostalgia or conventional coastal imagery. Bright beach light, nautical motifs and holiday styling were deliberately removed. Clothing stayed relaxed and contemporary, interiors remained restrained, and human gestures were kept incidental rather than posed.
The result sits somewhere between landscape photography, editorial portraiture and quiet observational storytelling.
